17 New Tata Nexon Electric Car inducts into Kolkata Police fleet

Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Kumar Goyal, inaugurated 17 new Tata Nexon electric cars in its fleet on the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5 at Police Athletic Club in Kolkata.

Now the Kolkata Police got an alternative vehicle option and it will be better as compared to petrol or diesel-powered car. Also on this occasion, it was announced that a number of electric bikes would be introduced for use by the Kolkata Police for regular patrolling purposes.

A total of 226 no of new Tata Nexon electric cars will be provided to the police force on an 8-year lease term and a budget of Rs 8.82 crore has been sanctioned for this purpose. For that Kolkata Police signed MoU or partnered with Tata Motors in 2021 to replace the aging ICE vehicles with environment-friendly electric vehicles. In this project, the first batch of 17 new Tata Nexon has been delivered by the Tata Motors to the Kolkata Police and the remaining will be delivered in due course.

A best-selling electric car is the Tata Nexon EV in India, a report shows, and also this Tata electric car SUV comes under only 17 lakh. It has a range of 300 km on a single charge. Tata Nexon electric car is leading position in the electric vehicle portfolio of Tata Motors. Total sales of 3,454 units of electric cars have been registered in May 2022 with a 6-fold YoY growth corresponding to the same period of last year. The company offers 3 types of electric vehicles in the Indian market viz Tata Nexon EV, Tata Nexon EV Max, and Tata Tigor EV, and the company lined up more electric vehicles in the future like Tata Nano EV, Tata Avinya Concept car, etc.

These new 17 Tata Nexon electric cars will be distributed among multiple police units, including the traffic department for their uses. These Nexon EV units will be distributed as best suited considering the need for a strong charging network and will be charged daily.

To further encourage electric vehicle adoption, last month the government announced a two-year discount and relaxation for new electric car and two-wheeler registrants. Furthermore, the Central government is also giving subsidies in the name of FAME II to the owner of the electric vehicle as well as electric vehicle manufacturing companies.
